How to colour grade a video with AI: match the shots first, then choose one look
Correction first, look second. How the editor measures a frame before it grades it, every control in the Color tab, why your grade and its grade are the same field, and a few starting numbers.
How to make a split-screen video of two people talking, from one camera
Both panes show the same shot; the trick is zooming until one person fits, then panning to the end. Split on the exchange, not on speech, and put the person the clip is about on top.
How to add a clip to the timeline yourself: drag it from the Media tab
A video becomes a clip of the whole file, an image a three-second still, both at the cut nearest the pointer. Trim it by hand or ask the editor for the rest; the two are not modes.
How to add slow motion and speed ramps to a video (so the slow point lands)
Half speed is a slideshow; a ramp is a curve with its slow point on the hit. The numbers that make one read, why a ramped clip is silent, and where slow motion plays smoothly.
Narrative is on the iPhone
Describe the video, answer one question, get the edit. Fix it with a sentence or your fingers, export to Photos. Your footage stays on your phone.
How to put text behind a person in a video (and cut anything out of a shot)
The effect is a cutout: the subject, tracked through the shot, painted over the title. How to ask for it, what the tracker needs, and the snowboard edit that does it at 0:10.
How to make a video that looks like a reference: copy a Reel’s edit, or just its style
“Cut it like this one” is the best brief there is, if the editor actually measures “this one”. Here is what gets measured, what gets flagged, and the two ways to use a reference.
How to add captions to a vertical video that people can actually read
Transcribing is solved. Size, position and style are the decisions. Five caption styles, a rule for size on a phone, and the one place captions never cover a face.
How to add transitions between clips, and when a hard cut is the better one
A transition covers a cut, and most cuts do not need covering. The five kinds, the one technical constraint, and a high-energy edit that puts its three transitions nowhere near the beat.
How to make a video from photos and clips, in the order they actually happened
The editing is twenty minutes; the sorting is the afternoon. Upload the folder, HEICs included, and the capture times do the sorting. How to brief the rest.
When the AI cut is nearly right: fixing the last ten percent by hand on the timeline
A cut a word late should be a drag, not a sentence. The strip’s tools, the speed presets, autosaved versions, and how the editor picks up where your hand left off.
How to reframe a 16:9 video to 9:16 without losing anyone in the shot
A centre crop loses one of the two people. The fix is to stack them or follow whoever is talking. Here is a 27-second clip that does both, and how to ask for it.
How to turn a podcast episode into short clips
The slow part is not the trimming, it is finding the six moments in two hours that belong together. Here is a clip that did that, and what to ask for to get your own.
How to cut a video to the beat of the music
Cutting on the beat by hand means marking every downbeat. Here it is one request, shown on a 24-second snowboard edit and a 20-second festival recap.
How to cut interviews into a two-minute explainer, with B-roll and lower thirds
Five interview recordings, twelve minutes of talking, one two-minute piece with lower thirds, captions and B-roll over the cuts. How it was built and how to brief your own.
How to make an event recap video from a day of footage
Eighteen minutes of festival footage became a 20-second recap: twenty cuts, one look, cut to the drum build. How to get the same from your own event.
How to edit videos with AI: a workflow you can copy
Describe the cut once, review it in passes, revise with specific asks. Every step shown on a real edit you can open in the editor without an account.
AI video editors vs. traditional editing software: which one for which job
Where an AI editor saves you time, where a traditional NLE still wins, and how to test the difference on one real project instead of a feature list.
